Ulysse Nardin Ulysse I Chronometer

The Ulysse I is equipped with the same type of power reserve indicator used in Ulysse Nardin pocket watches produced in 1912. The power reserve is unique in that both the small hand and the underlying disk turn. When the movement is wound (up), either manually or automatically by the movements of the wrist when the watch is being worn, the small disk below the figure 12 turns counter-clockwise until the largest segment of the scale reaches the power reserve hand.As the movement unwinds (down) when the watch is not worn, the power reserve hand turns counter-clockwise down on the scale shown on the disk until it reaches the smallest segment of the scale. On standard power reserve indicators only the hand moves down on a printed scale on the dial. The self-winding movement is fully wound when the hand points to the largest segment on the disk. The movement has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Chronometer Certificate C.O.S.C.
ULYSSE I Chronometer undergoes the rigorous tests of the Swiss Official Chronometer Control which certifies the reliability and accuracy of this exceptional timepiece. The in-house engineers and technicians of Ulysse Nardin spent nearly seven years on the development of this patented self-winding manufacture calibre.
It combines the novel Alarm setting with a Countdown indicator and the Dual time system with the instant time zone adjustor conceived by Dr. Oechslin and featured in many Ulysse Nardin watches. This patented Dual time function permits time zone adjustments forward and backward by simply pressing the pushers plus (+) or minus (-) to change the position of the hour hand. The original home time (reference time) stays displayed while the date, the Alarm and Countdown adjust automatically when a time zone adjustment is made.
The melodic chiming of the Alarm is based on a novel 24 hours mechanism which allows setting the Alarm 23 hours ahead, for 7.35 pm the same day or 7.35 am the next day. Short Description: Three hands indicate the time in hours, minutes and seconds. Big Date. The double discs display at 4 o'clock permits easy reading of the date. Dual time. A sub-dial above 6 displays the 24 hour Dual time functions. Alarm Setting. The sub-dial at 2 indicates for which hour and minute the Alarm has been set. Countdown. A sub-dial at 10 calculates the time left on a 24 hour scale until the Alarm chimes. This permits easy reading of whether the Alarm is set for 7:35 pm or 7:35 am the next day. The hand at 9 indicates if the Alarm is activated or not, ON or OFF.

The Royal Blue Tourbillon is constructed on the principles of James Pellaton (La Locle’s famous watchmaker). The skeletonized movement hides its secret as to what is holding the flying tourbillion, which appears to be revolving weightlessly in its cage. The winding stem is also invisible.
The Royal Blue Tourbillion (42 mm) is in platinum and the interior of the bezel is set with diamonds and blue sapphires as hour and minute markers. The setting of the time and the winding of the Calibre UN-79 manual winding movement uses a circular rack mechanism.
This Limited Edition timepiece (99 pieces) has an anti-reflective sapphire crystal front and back, an alligator leather strap with a folding platinum buckle and is water-resistant to 50 metres
